Analysis

Ultraportable

The ThinkPad X1 Nano Gen 2 is a 2022 flagship ultraportable built for executive mobility. It pairs a Intel Core i7-1270P with 16 GB soldered LPDDR5 and a 2K IPS panel at 13". At 0.97 kg with a 49.6 Wh battery, it is exceptionally portable.

Strengths

  • Sub-1 kg ultralight chassis
  • Bright 450-nit display
  • Touchscreen input
  • 2x Thunderbolt 4 for docking and eGPU
  • TrackPoint pointing stick

Limitations

  • RAM soldered — not user-upgradeable
  • Maximum 16 GB RAM ceiling
  • No built-in Ethernet
  • No SD card reader
  • Aging 2022 platform — limited vendor support horizon
  • Community-only Linux support (no official certification)
  • Basic integrated GPU — limited to light esports titles

Analysis derived from public PSREF specifications

Editorial Notes

The ultralight specialist at under 1 kg. The 2K IPS panel at 13 inches offers sharp text rendering in a remarkably portable package. The 1270P inside provides more multi-core power than you'd expect from a sub-kilogram laptop. Limited port selection is the trade-off for extreme portability.

Known Issues

No USB-A ports at all — adapter life is the reality. The 49.6 Wh battery is small but adequate thanks to the efficient display and compact form factor. Fan noise is noticeable when the 28W CPU is pushed — the tiny chassis has limited thermal headroom.

Swiss Market

Niche but loved by frequent travellers on Swiss rail (compact enough for SBB table trays). Available at reduced prices as Gen 3 stock replaces it.
