Analysis

DeveloperDesktop ReplacementIT Fleet

The ThinkPad T16 Gen 1 (Intel) is a 2022 mainstream business workhorse balancing performance and portability. It pairs a Intel Core i7-1270P with 16 GB upgradeable DDR4 and a WUXGA IPS panel at 16". At 1.67 kg with a 52.5 Wh battery, it is desk-friendly.

Strengths

  • Thunderbolt 4 connectivity
  • Built-in Ethernet (RJ45)
  • SD card reader
  • Lenovo Linux-certified
  • TrackPoint pointing stick

Limitations

Editorial Notes

The first T16, replacing the T15 with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The larger 16-inch display with WUXGA is excellent for spreadsheet-heavy work and side-by-side document editing. Dual storage slots and a numpad keyboard complete the productivity package.

Known Issues

At 1.67 kg it is noticeably heavier than 14-inch T-series models. DDR4 memory limits bandwidth. The base 300-nit WUXGA panel is adequate but not exceptional.

Swiss Market

Popular with Swiss financial services firms for the 16-inch display and numpad. Refurbished units offer strong value for spreadsheet-focused roles.

Linux

Lenovo-certified for Ubuntu. The larger chassis provides better thermals for sustained workloads. All hardware well-supported on kernel 6.1+.
